187th Operations Group Holds Change of Command Ceremony

Montgomery Regional Air National Guard Base, Ala. --  U.S. Air Force Col. Clarence Borowski relinquished command of the 187th Operations Group here in a change of command ceremony Aug. 7, 2016, on base.

The ceremony also marked Borowski's retirement from his more than 29-year career with the 187th Fighter Wing.

Borowski began his career as an enlisted weapons system specialist before commissioning in 1992. He has flown the U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon and RC-26B reconnaissance aircraft, amassing more than 4,000 flight hours.

U.S. Air Force Col. Randy Efferson, 187th Fighter Wing commander, spoke during the ceremony and praised Borowski's contributions to the wing.

"In our 2014 deployment to Afghanistan, the wing did awesome by every measure," Efferson said. "Everybody there was a reflection of the programs that (Borowski) put in place so that our pilots could put the bombs on target."

Borowski spoke about his experiences in the guard and gave the incoming commander, Lt. Col. Christopher Jones, some parting advice.

"You will be faced with situations you have never encountered," Borowski said. "You will be asked questions that you don't know the answer to. You will be challenged to find solutions to seemingly-impossible problems. But take heart; the answers are all around you. Trust your people, and don't be afraid to ask."

Jones, also a career F-16 pilot with more than 2,600 flight hours, assumed command of the group from Efferson.

"I'm very humbled and honored to be here as a commander," Jones said. "I'm very much aware of the lofty goals that (Borowski) had, the standards that he had, and the big shoes that I have to fill. It's an awesome responsibility."
