Col William Sparrow assumed command of the 187th Fighter Wing in a change of command ceremony December 15, 2017 at the Montgomery Regional Air National Guard Base, Montgomery, Ala.

Sparrow accepted responsibility of the wing in front of a crowd of distinguished guests including Air Force and Air National Guard general officers, state and city elected officials, and family.

Sparrow is a command pilot with more than 4500 hours in the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and has completed more than 30 years of military service. He has served as the wing's vice commander since November 2013.

Brigadier General Randy Efferson had led the wing since January 2015. Efferson will now serve as the Alabama Air National Guard Chief of Staff.
