Expeditionary Communications units from around the Air National Guard came together for a symposium August 28-30 in downtown Montgomery, Ala. Leaders from around the career field met to discuss ideas, tactics, and issues, while also attending the Air Force Information Technology and Cyberpower Conference (AFITC).

Lt Col Troy Morgan, deputy commander of the 226th Combat Communications Group in Montgomery, Ala., helped plan the event that brought together leadership from two combat communications groups, 15 combat communications squadrons, and one special operations communications squadron.

“Combat comm is the first force to establish a communications link from an expeditionary forward operating location back to higher command and expeditionary leaders,” Morgan said. “To bring our groups and squadrons together to discuss issues and tactics for our community is a positive for everyone.”

Morgan said partnering with the AFITC made planning and coordination easier, and “it allowed our members to hear directly from Air Force Space Command, NGB, and 24th Air Force.”

“The beauty of it is, these airmen got to see the keynote speakers from across the Air Force, and we would have never been able to pull that off if this was just expeditionary comm meeting by itself.”
