Members of the 187th Fighter Wing Return from Nellis Deployment

MONTGOMERY REGIONAL AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Ala. --  More than 100 members of the 187th Fighter Wing are returning from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., after spending more than a month providing training support as the U.S. Air Force Weapons School.  The 187th Fighter Wing responded to a nationwide solicitation for support from Air Combat Command (ACC), the 187th's higher operational headquarters.

The 187th brought the experience gained from their recent Afghanistan deployment to help train pilots in the Air National Guard, Air Reserves and Active Duty in air-to-air combat strategy.

The U. S. Air Force Weapons School teaches graduate-level instructor courses that provide the world's most advanced training in weapons and tactics employment. The goal of the course is to train students to be tactical experts in their combat specialty while also learning the art of battle-space dominance. This ability creates such a complete overmatch in combat power in any domain of conflict that adversaries have no choice but to submit or give up.

Col. Len Borowski, Commander, 187th Operations Group said "we deployed seven jets and 125 people for 30 days to simulate adversary air threats in support of the Air Force's Combat Weapons Instructor Upgrade Course. We flew 200+ sorties in 30 days supporting multiple school syllabus events and multiple platforms including:  F-22 Raptor, F-15 Eagle, and F-15E Strike Eagle.  The deployment was very successful because we supported a critical Air Force need and without our support the Weapons School would have had no adversary support for those 30 days, resulting in delayed student progression and increased cost to the taxpayers" 

Members of the 187th Fighter Wing will now focus their attention on mission preparations to participate in an international training event with the Romanian Air Force in Campiia Turzi in the fall of 2015.
